Financial Report – 2015

Chris Harrison, Treasurer

Martham Local History Group has had another successful year with the latest closing figure of £2,519.90 for the bank account issued on 01 September 2015. This is an increase of £371.44 on the previous year. This sum includes subscription receipts from 65 members totalling £650.00, and income from raffles & donations received over the year totalling £68.15 after deduction of prizes awarded.

A successful number of events have been held over the last twelve months of which more details are given in the President's & Chairman's reports.

The annual coach trip to Constable Country this year resulted in a full coach and I would like to place on record my thanks to the Chairman and Secretary for all the hard work they carried out in ensuring that the day was a complete success, and to Peter Lawrence for leading the visit. I would like to thank members once again for their support in this visit and to remind you all that future outings by coach will only be continued subject to sufficient support due to the continued rise in the cost of coach hire.

I was quite overwhelmed by the support we received for the visit to Heigham Holmes in June, when 55 members & friends including visitors from as far afield as Norwich and Wymondham spent almost 3 hours walking around the National Trust site under the leadership of the Trust warden. Carrying around all the collected donations in my pockets for the duration of the visit made me realise how heavy £1 coins are.

This year we experimented with allowing all members free entry to our monthly meetings except for those held in the Village Hall. As a result, with average attendances of 42, the nett income from such events has fallen but your committee has agreed to continue the free entry for members over the next 12 months except for events held in the Village Hall. We considered that the subscriptions received would be sufficient to continue this practice, and would ensure that it would also be kept under constant review.

The purchase of equipment (laptop & bag) has been made for the History Group this year as mentioned at the last AGM, in addition to a book on the Midland & Great Northern Railway which includes details about Martham Station. Web hosting has continued to be paid and the figure in the annual statement reflects hosting for a period of 24 months.

Annual subscriptions for Members remain unchanged at £10.00 and will be due by the end of December this year, and anybody not renewing by the last day of February 2016 will be removed from the Membership. Renewals can be paid from today, as can any new membership request, and will benefit in being valid until 31 December 2016.

Once again thank you to all Members who renew their membership and support our events throughout the year, without you the History Group would not exist.
